My name is T.J. King, the seventh
member of eight children. I was raised in a small town called Wendell, Idaho
where I learned important principles such as honesty, integrity, hard work,
personal drive, and persistence through the examples of my parents and
siblings.
While growing up I
played sports year round. There I initially learned to work with people and to
work as a true team. Those teams I participated on had a high level of success
as rarely lost any games we participated in. It was also in these teams where I
learned that failure are at times life’s most valuable learning experiences.
During and after high
school I worked for my dad’s local custom cabinet business where I built custom
cabinets and gained experience in customer service. I also had the opportunity
to work for my brother and build custom built homes.
A year after high
school I served a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints in Buenos Aires Argentina. There I learned to speak and write Spanish fluently
along with many opportunities to develop interpersonal communication skills. I also
had many different opportunities to develop teaching life teaching skills and
was given the opportunity to train and capacitate others to be effective
teachers.
I am now a student
at BYU-Idaho projecting to graduate in December of 2013 with a major in
Communications (Public Relations and communication management) and two
clusters, or partial minors in both Spanish and Business.
While at college, I
have worked over the summers to pay school off as a Fire Fighter for the BLM.
There I had opportunities again to work as teams and to follow orders. I worked
at our cabinet business and most recently have sold pest control for a company
in Charlotte, North Carolina. There in Charlotte I had the opportunity to speak
with countless people over the course of three months. I developed
interpersonal communication skills and sales skills. Over the course of three
months I developed skills that proved to be very successful as I generated
roughly $100,000.
I am now about to
graduate with plans to attend graduate school at Boise State University, Idaho
State University, or Brigham Young University to attain my MBA. I look forward
to attaining my degree so I can be an asset to future companies and help them generate
revenue while enjoying work at the same time.
